Oludeniz sits at the mouth of a sheltered lagoon on Turkey's southwest coast, where a sandspit curls around water so still it reads as a single sheet of turquoise. Behind it rises Babadag, the 1,969-metre mountain that turned this corner of Muğla into one of the world's great paragliding launch sites. Fethiye, fifteen minutes up the road, is the working harbour that sends boats out to the bays.

01Why Fethiye & Oludeniz

Few places in Turkey pack this much variety into one day. You can drift through the calm of the Blue Lagoon in the morning, take a gulet out to a chain of pine-fringed islands by lunch, and float down from a mountain ridge under a paraglider before dinner. The water here is the clearest on the Turquoise Coast, and the bays — Butterfly Valley, Aquarium Bay, St Nicholas Island — are only reachable by boat, which keeps them quieter than the beach resorts.

From the air off Babadag, the Blue Lagoon looks less like a beach and more like a brushstroke laid across the sea.

04Departure points

05Best time to go

May–June and September–October are the sweet spots. The sea is warm enough to swim, winds are gentle and the bays are far less crowded than in midsummer. July and August bring the hottest weather and the biggest crowds, so early-morning boats and flights are worth the alarm. Paragliding depends entirely on wind: morning slots are the most reliable, and strong afternoon thermals or southerly winds can ground flights at short notice.

07Frequently asked questions

How long is a Fethiye or Oludeniz boat tour?

The classic 12 Islands cruise from Fethiye runs about 6 hours with several swim stops. Oludeniz Blue Cave day trips last 5–7 hours, while multi-day Blue Cruise gulet voyages run 3–4 days between Fethiye and Olympos.

How much does paragliding from Babadag cost?

A tandem paragliding flight from Babadag down to Oludeniz beach is an estimated €110–€180 in 2026, usually including hotel transfer. Prices vary by season, take-off altitude (1,700m or 1,900m) and whether video is included.

Do I need to book in advance?

Day boat tours can often be booked a day ahead, but paragliding and multi-day Blue Cruise gulets fill up fast in high season (June–September), so 1–2 weeks ahead is advised. Booking online also locks in the price.

When is the best time to visit Oludeniz?

May–June and September–October offer warm water, calmer winds and fewer crowds. July–August is hottest and busiest. Paragliding depends on wind, so morning flights are more reliable; strong afternoon winds can ground flights.

Where do the boats and tours depart from?

The 12 Islands cruise leaves from Fethiye harbour, Blue Lagoon and Butterfly Valley trips from Oludeniz beach, and paragliding take-off is on Babadag (reached by cable car or jeep). Blue Cruise gulets board at Fethiye marina.
